As a study abroad student here in Seville, I know I have looked up things like “best places to go as a student in Seville”, “best rooftop bars in Seville” , or “where to get authentic paella in Seville” countless times. Much to my disappointment, I found that it was hard to weed out the “tourist traps” versus the places that would offer an authentic but unique experience. Believe me, I’ve tried the overpriced, rooftop bars with average views, the less than spectacular paella from places that claim to be the real deal, and went on the tours with tour guides who will tell you they have the best deals in the city. None of these experiences offered me what I was really looking for… a true historical and cultural immersion into Seville. That being said, I am going to give you some of my top recommendations for your time abroad in Seville!

During my time abroad, I was fortunate enough to have come across an amazing company called Local Food Experiences. This company not only offers a plethora of activities, but they provide a real cultural experience that you can’t get just anywhere. I will list a few of my favorites, although you really can’t go wrong with any!

  1. Rooftop Sangria Tasting

This experience is a must for abroad students. At only 25 euros per person, you get a generous tasting of 4 different sangrias and a sample of sherry wine. This is the perfect experience if you’re looking for amazing views, authentic sangria, and a fun time with friends! Pro tip: Book this combo with the authentic Flamenco show for an even deeper cultural immersion!

  1. Paella Show Cooking

You can’t come to Seville without trying true Spanish paella. During this experience, you will watch the chef cook paella while you enjoy unlimited wine or beer and finish with a plate of paella and a glass of sangria on the rooftop. This experience might seem pricier at 50 euros per person, but for everything that’s included, it ends up being such a great deal. Bonus: The chef will send you the paella AND sangria recipes so you can make it on your own!!

  1. Sangria Tasting and Tapas

As a student on a budget, this one might be my favorite. For only 36 euros, you will get to enjoy 3 tapas to share, 2 individual tapas, and 4 different kinds of sangria on the rooftop. Invite your friends to join and get a taste of Seville by enjoying authentic Spanish tapas and sangria - something else you can’t leave Spain without trying!

  1. Ugly Food Tour

Last but certainly not least… the ugly food tour! I’m not going to lie, I signed up for this tour solely because of the name, and I’m so glad I did. If you’re looking for a different kind of experience while you’re in Seville, this would be the way to go. This tour takes you across the river to the Triana Market (full of history, culture, and good vibes) where you will get a chance to try some very unique Spanish tapas. The guide is super sweet and knowledgeable but be prepared… she won’t tell you what you’re eating until after you try it (which is all part of the fun). Hope you’re ready for an adventure!

My advice: Ask the guide about the well-known bakery nearby for a sweet treat after!
